Cefix is a cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat infections caused by bacteria such as pneumonia, bronchitis, gonorrhea, and ear, lung, throat, and urinary tract infections.
Cefix usually taken once a day or every 12 hours (twice a day) for 5-14 days. Gonorrhea may be treated in 1-10 days. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take Cefix exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
Cefix works best if the amount of medicine is kept at constant level in the body or else the bacteria may continue to grow. The medication should not be discontinued till the full medicine prescribed by the doctor is consumed.
Before the intake of Cefix it is important to consult your doctor and inform him about your medical history and the allergy you might have to particular drugs. Cefix may cause loss of appetite, stomach upset, dizziness, headache, fatigue, muscle aches and strange taste in the mouth. Consult your doctor promptly if you experience any of these side effects.
Some other side effects such as fever, change in the amount of urine, seizures, easy bleeding or bruising are less likely to occur but needs to be informed to the doctor. The allergic reaction may be indicated by symptoms that include breathing difficulties, swellings, rashes, and dizziness or itching in such cases contact your doctor or pharmacist. In some cases use of this medication for longer periods may result in oral, bladder or vaginal yeast infections.
