Have you refused to bow a knee to Baal or kiss him (metaphorically speaking that is)? Are you keeping yourself unstained from the world (not hiding from it, but not embracing it either)? I’m not asking you if you’re a perfect Christian, but I am asking you where your loyalties lie and how deep they are.
I often look around and feel like there are very few really committed Christians. Now I’m not talking about the masses of people who dabble in Christianity, but the truly committed. Again, not the perfect Christian, but the Christian Warrior or the Warrior Poet. People like King David, Joshua, Paul and Peter; the imperfect Christians who would be ready at the drop of a hat to stand against any evil or threat for Christ.
Often a man or woman’s priority can change when they’re caught off guard, or when the going gets really tough. A soldier for Christ doesn’t have to be perfect, he doesn’t have to be the nicest, or the best dressed. He doesn’t have to be able to recite scripture from memory, but he has to be without doubt. He has to be committed to the cause no matter what. He has to be ready to leave everything behind if called upon by our Master in Chief, Jesus Christ.
I was thinking about the scripture below when the idea for the post came to me. I have often looked around and saw lots of nice Christian people, doing lots of nice things. I have seen many of them dressed in their best, driving nice clean cars, and smiling at everyone. And I think to myself, those seem like really nice people, I just wonder how many of those nice people are committed and loyal enough that if a weapon was held to them and they were given the option to convert to Islam or die would make the choice for Christ. I could be many of the, I don’t know; but what I do know is there can be no doubt in a situation like that.
I often think there’s not as many as there should be, but when Elijah told God that there was no one but him standing in the gap for God, God informed Elijah that he wasn’t alone, and that he had a pretty good number that He had in reserve. Read the story below and you’ll see what I mean.
1 Kings 19:14-18
14 And he said, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God of hosts; because the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left; and they seek to take my life.”
15 Then the Lord said to him: “Go, return on your way to the Wilderness of Damascus; and when you arrive, anoint Hazael as king over Syria. 16 Also you shall anoint Jehu the son of Nimshi as king over Israel. And Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel Meholah you shall anoint as prophet in your place. 17 It shall be that whoever escapes the sword of Hazael, Jehu will kill; and whoever escapes the sword of Jehu, Elisha will kill. 18 Yet I have reserved seven thousand in Israel, all whose knees have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him.”
Sometimes being a Christian Warrior, or a Warrior Poet can be lonely. You may have lots of family and friends who love you and who you love, but there’s something about the mind of a soldier for Christ that makes you feel a little different, not better, but just different. It’s a mindset that puts you always at the ready like a military soldier on patrol.
There is a spiritual battle going on, as a matter of fact, it’s been going on for many years. Looking around the world, it seems the battle is growing and becoming more intense. Are you ready to stand and declare your loyalty even to the point of death? I hope so, because that’s the kind of commitment it takes to follow Christ. He doesn’t need fare-weather friends who follow as long as things don’t get too tough.
You don’t have to be perfect, or memorize lots of scriptures, or never make mistakes to be a warrior for Christ, but you do have to be loyal, committed, and without doubt.
Where do you stand?
